Group exhibition, Scraps, Thorsønn design, Oslo, Norway. “I DO, I REDO, I UNDO - Woven entities” (2024) Textile installation, group exhibition “Scraps”, Thorsønn This work examines the circular potential of materials that have exceeded their original expiration date, operating at the intersection of collective ecology, feminist biology, and personal mythology. Drawing upon Louise Bourgeois’ spider motif as a symbol of repair and the weaving mother, the installation takes the form of a monumental, tactile network of discarded textiles. The work is driven by a radical zero-budget philosophy where all materials are found or repurposed: surplus wool from Gudbrandsdalen Uldvarefabrik—a landscape where the artist has deep familial roots—textile scraps left behind by Hviding’s mother who also worked with weaving, offcuts from neighbors' sewing, and forgotten leftovers from Startblokka. By weaving these elements together with materials from my previous installation ARR, the project itself becomes a living cycle where nothing is wasted. The intricate spiderweb functions as a spatial map of the biological premise that women carry eight generations of DNA inside their bodies. The intersection between femininity, family, and the web underscores how we, as a society, are inextricably intertwined in order to function as a whole. Here, stitching becomes a ritualistic and collective act; a manifestation of a greener art practice that challenges commercial consumerism and reclaims craft as a link between the foremothers of the past and the ecological necessity of the future. “The web and the spider, represents all of us intertwined in our generations, how women carry 8 generations in their body and dna. Commission work, municipality of Gamle Oslo. The purpose of this project, was to invoke a sense of transformation, through textile and smell, during a Elvelangs, Oslo, 2024. Welcoming the audience into a lighter, warmer energy, in an area of the city that's normally left alone, without a lot of illumination, and mainly used by homeless people as well as drug users. The fabric installed in a manner as if a wash left to be dried in the wind. Shiny material for etherealness and a continuation of the wind, blending in with the sky and the sun. Infusing the textiles with different techniques of energetic cleansing, smell and incense. Leaving you to walk into an immersed sensory based installation, letting the viewer create their own narrative. ARR is presented alongside analog 35mm photographs in a sensory-based interactive installation, where some motifs are also printed on cotton and silk fabric. The videos are projected into the space, where they are assembled and installed in a site-specific manner. ARR has been exhibited at NW gallery (CPH, 2022) as well as Sorgenfri (OSL, 2022), and now here at Neue Design Studio in collaboration with Atelie. ARR /// (Reflection) is the final part of the ARR trilogy, produced in 2023. Made as an experience based exposition, a place of relaxation and contemplation. installations. Bringing nature into the exposition space as a way of connection to others as well as one self. «In a literal play on the name of the exhibition, (ARR) we used motion to scar the images. Using motion we also added the element of time. Giving the memory life. The scarring itself represents the distortion of our memories, and how we perceive them over time. Like missing pieces of a memory – or a distorted view of what happened. « ARR shows an outtake of an ongoing experimental project, regarding your own consciousness and presence in life, as well as our mental health. It explores what happens when we document and occupy spaces in between the duality of vulnerability, the edges, as well as the highs and lows. An experiment on how the lense can capture and transform traumas somehow; into something like a self help tool that makes the lows more manageable, more comprehensible. It shows 3 narratives, a before, during and after, all meshed and woven together. Nature is brought into the gallery room as an aid for the audience, to send the message about connecting back with nature, as well as an indication on what helped the process of healing and understanding. Creating from a place of stillness, to take the viewer into some sort of ethereal state. How do you perceive your surroundings while having the feeling of being under water... ARR presents a visual outtake from a triggered mind, that's living in between the duality of vulnerability, the subdued and hard edges, the highs and lows.
